Hosting a Valentine’s Day Tea Party is a perfect way for kids to show their love to special families, like grandparents, aunts, and favorite family friends and neighbors. Having a mix of an older generation and young friends makes the party lively and memorable for all.

Where we live in the North East of the United States January is the month to put away the Christmas Decorations, and declutter. February is the month that we are snowed in and everyone starts getting “cabin fever”. Our family has all gone home to regroup, and the little ones are feeling cooped up. Valentine’s Day is an ideal time to get the family distracted from all the snow and create a fun activity.

For Your Next Party, you need this 12 page beautifully designed Workbook Tips & Trick, Manners & Etiquette, for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Father’s Day, Baby/Wedding Showers, & Birthdays. The E-Book is full of fun facts and tips to make your next party a success.

Formal Invitations

One of the basic skills of a tea party is sending an elegant invitation. Teapots and flowers are the traditional elements of an invitation. If your kids are helping design the party, hand-made invitations they design freehand or on the computer add a special touch.

Invitations should be sent out at least 3 weeks in advance. I would recommend calling each guest or texting to find a date that everyone can attend. However, mailing out a physical invitation will teach your kids how to design an invitation with all the necessary details. This is the time to give a lesson on addressing an envelope and putting the stamp in the right place. We just do not do this much anymore but formal mailing is a skill our kids still need to know.

If you want to make your envelope even more special check out this post where my friend Nora has created special stamps to give your envelopes an extra touch of creativity.

Setting A Tea Party Table

Soft pastels of white, cream, pink, and red bring color to your home during the dreary days of winter. Pretty napkins, flowers, and food that have a spring feel add to the festive tea party feel.

You don’t need a lot of fancy dishes and teacup sets to have an elegant Tea Party. One way to set an elegant table for a kid’s friendly tea party is to shop the clearance section of a department store or kitchen store.

I was able to purchase on a budget enough dishes by collecting springs designed teacups and salad plates. I created a mix and match the theme, with every cup and saucer set different. I also collected different teaspoons and salad forks for a fun table setting.

You can also search the sale and clearancesection of department stores for beautiful tablecloths for a formal look at your tea party table.

Taking my girls out shopping for all the table setting items was so much fun. We learned which table size to use to determine if a tablecloth was going to fit. Each girl was able to use their own taste in determining the teacups.

It is never too early to teach the art of hospitality. Demonstrating a mindset of finding lovely items that your guests will appreciate and the fun of finding joy in making others happy.

Centerpieces for the Table

Next, you will want to brainstorm ideas for a centerpiece for the table. If you are like we are in the cold north, fresh flowers from your local grocery store are an inexpensive and simple idea. If you are having a cake, setting the cake on a beautiful cake stand is also a simple and elegant solution.

Look at the local thrift shop and you can find cake stands or tiered serving towers that are a simple inexpensive and elegant table centerpiece.

At my daughter’s wedding shower we used teapots I found at garage sales and filled them with flowers from the local discount store. You can use fresh or even silk flowers in the teapot and your table setting will be complete.

Tea Party Menu

To begin with, when planning your menu for a kid-friendly tea party, keeping the food simple is best. Finger sandwiches are just the right size for little hands.

A simple lettuce salad or jell-0 salad, scones, or biscuits are easy to make the day ahead. Cookies or cakes for dessert. We love to make homemade marshmallows and cut them into shapes that fit the tea party theme.

Tea Party Manners

A Tea Party is the best time to start instructing and practicing table manners as well as basic etiquette when hosting a guest in your home. In our busy lives, we do not practice on a daily basis the basic table manners. I seldom set a basic place setting of a plate, fork, knife, and spoon with a napkin and water glass. Here are a few options on where to start.

START WITH BASIC ETIQUETTE & TABLES MANNERS:

  • Greeting Guests On Arrival
  • Taking Coats & Scarfs
  • Helping Older Guests
  • Basic Place Setting

Ingredients:

1 8oz cream cheese at room temperature
1 8oz crushed pineapplein its own syrup, drained well.
1 cup chopped pecans
Bread with the crust removed (Make sure the bread is not too soft or it will be hard to maintain its shape)
Cookie Cutters, Heart-shaped for Valentine’s Day

Instructions:

Make sure that the cream cheese is at room temperature or it will not mix well. Next, drain the pineapple well for 10 minutes so that the crushed pineapple does not make your spread watery.

Place the cream cheese in a mixing bowl and using a hand mixer or a stand mixer, mix until the cream cheese is creamy. At this point, you will want to hand mix to keep a nice texture.

Hand mix in the drained crushed pineapple and the chopped nuts. (you can change up the nuts to whatever type of nut you like). After mixed refrigerate to keep fresh and have the spread cold for your sandwiches.

Remove the crust from the bread and cut the bread into cute shapes. Spread a teaspoon full of the pineapple cream cheese in between two slices of bread that you have cut into shapes.

After you have a decorative shape so each guest can have a heart sandwich, you can cut the remaining sandwiches cut in simple triangles so as to not waste too much of the bread.

Place on a decorative plate and cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until time for the party.
