PARK EVENING PRESS, Jan. 9, 1969 Workers 'Walk' After Car Theft HOWELL TOWNSHIP er the second car in just over a week was stolen from the parkding lot at Frequency Engineering Laboratories, Lakewood last night, about a dozen workers walked off their jobs to protest a lack of security in the lot. State police confirmed that a car was stolen sometime tween 4:15 and 8:30 p.m., and said ironically the victim was the same person who had his car stolen from the lot Dec. 31. Police said that although it is believed the same thief took both cars, it appears to be pure coincidence that it was from the same person.

They declined to identify the victim at this point in the investigation. The car stolen Dec. 31 was his, police said, while the car stolen last night was rented from Geiger Ford, Belmar. One of the workers who walked out said about 12 men told their bosses they were sick and left their jobs. Company officials said they knew of no walkout, but when an Asbury Park Press reporter visited the plant at 11:45 p.m., there was a security guard in the parking lot.

South Vietnamese and enemy casualties also were considI erably less than the week before. The U.S. Command announced today that 101 Americans were killed in action last week and 599 were wounded, the lowest American casualties since the week of Oct. 13-19, when 100 were killed and 589 were wounded. South Vietnamese headquarters reported 150 government troops killed and 602 wounded, a sizable decrease from the 279 killed and 901 wounded the previous week.

The two commands reported at least 1,846 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese killed, compared with 2,135 the week before. The report for the last week of 1968 brought the total American combat casualties since Jan. 1, 1961, to 30,644 killed, 192.926 wounded, and 1,238 missing or captured; in those eight years, the U.S. Command said, at least 431.736 of the enemy have been killed. On the political front, President Nguyen Van Thieu reiterated today that he would "never accept" the Viet Cong's National Liberation Front as an equal party to the Paris peace talks.

That wouldn't guys stealing wheels and batteries, but at least they couldn't drive a car out," he said. The workman said there are about 70 men on the second shift, on which the walkout 00- curred, and the 12 leaving had to slow production to some extent.
