Housing Rights Center

The Housing Rights Center works to promote justice and equality in housing. HRC provides Alhambra residents with free housing counseling and fair housing education, investigates housing discrimination, and assists with disability accommodation requests. Senior Housing

Public Housing / Section 8

The Community Development Commission of the County of Los Angeles, located at 700 West Main Street, Alhambra, 626-262-4510, assists low-income families and seniors to pay rent to private landlords through the federal Section 8 housing program. Search/Register for Section 8 Housing online.

Homeless Shelters & Transitional Housing

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) provides shelter, housing, and services to homeless persons in Los Angeles City and County.

The Salvation Army provides relief to families by providing basic needs such as food, shelter, and utilities, as well as additional supportive services such as counseling and spiritual care.

The Union Station Foundation provides shelter, meals, supportive housing and support services to homeless and poor adults and families in Greater Pasadena and western San Gabriel Valley.

LA County's Rent Relief Program

In an effort to assist renters with limited means affected by the COVID-19 crisis, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has provided $100 million in CARES Act funds to create a COVID-19 Rent Relief program, operated by the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA). The program is set to launch on Monday, August 17, 2020, and will remain open for a two-week period, closing on August 31,2020. The program's goal is to assist between 8,000 to over 9,000 households.

Eviction Moratorium

On March 27, 2020, the Alhambra City Council adopted an Urgency Ordinance temporarily prohibiting COVID-19 related evictions. Learn more about the City's Urgency Ordinance (PDF) online. The City of Alhambra's moratorium expired on May 31, 2020, and was not extended or replaced. Residents of Alhambra now fall under the County's eviction moratorium. LA County launched Stay Housed L.A. County, a countywide initiative to provide legal assistance and support for tenants facing eviction amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The launch included the release of the Stay Housed L.A. website. connecting tenants with useful information about their rights, workshops for residents who need legal assistance, and other support. Stay Housed L.A. County is a partnership between the County of Los Angeles, legal aid groups, and community-based organizations to provide emergency support to tenants in need.‍

State's Rent Relief Program

The State has announced the launch of a CA COVID-19 Rent Relief Program, intended to help income-eligible households pay rent and utilities, both for past and future payments. The decision by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to Opt-In to the statewide program will offer a singular, uniform framework to be deployed throughout California and avoid unnecessary confusion about competing programs among residents.
