Happy Friday, everyone! It's time for another installment of Mark's Friday funnies. This week's topic is the job search! But before we dive in, let's take a moment to recognize all the hard work and effort that goes into the job search process. Whether it's networking, applying, or interviewing, it takes dedication and persistence to succeed. And to those of you who are already employed, congratulations on your contributions to your company's mission this week. Now, on to the humor. Here are a few job search-related jokes to brighten up your day and start your weekend off on the right foot (credit theundercoverrecruiter.com):- "I’m looking for a job where I am politely ignored and left to my own devices. With unlimited Internet access, doughnuts, and coffee."- "Inspecting mirrors is a job I could really see myself doing."- "I think my job interview to be a bug sorter went well. I boxed all the right ticks."- "I’m aspirin’ to be a chemist."- "I applied for a job in Australia but seems I don’t have the right koalifications."- "Interviewer: What’s your biggest weakness? Me: I don’t know when to quit. Interviewer: You’re hired. Me: I quit."

In a similar vein, a joke related to having the wrong job: Once upon a time there was King that was only 12 inches tall. He was a terrible King but he made a great Ruler 😀

ECLIPSE THOUGHTSYou've seen thousands of pix and videos, I have them too but will refrain from posting. What amazes me almost as those, and of course actually experiencing it (which was absolutely amazing), is how mankind actually has the capacity to predict this minute, infinitesimal happening in the continuum of all time TO.THE.SECOND! I was following this site for example pre and post: https://lnkd.in/d6S7mnmHLayman speaking, I think it's a least 100 years before Dallas gets another one of these - that's how amazing this event on Monday was!

Well said Tom Hunt. I think that sometimes recruiters overemphasize the listed qualifications, trying to check every single box. Those qualifications represent tangible utopia and do not at all include desire, will, loyalty, passion, attitude, etc., which is difficult to portray on a resume. It's worse if first glance is via an employee management system. In the end, the company suffers and the job seeker wonders if he will ever have the opportunity to show those intangibles. Not a great situation. So much talent not even being considered.

JOB HUNT SAYINGS/MOTIVATIONSHeard a new job search phrase yesterday in a networking group of which I am a member: "Yesses live in the land of Nos." Liked it. Made me think of a few job search observations yours truly has coined:1) "Mr./Ms. Recruiter: a 'no' reply is better than no reply."2) "Mr./Ms. Potential Networker: acknowledging that you are too busy to network is better than being to busy to acknowledge."3) "You know you’re in a job search when the number of Linked In connections surpasses and grows at a greater rate than the # of friends you have on Facebook. Same applies with the amount of time you spend on both." Others I've heard:1)"'No' means not forever, just right now."2) (relating to a layoff) "Get drunk, get over it, get on with it."3) "For every negative thought, replace it with two positive thoughts."4) "You never know where your next lead will come from."5) "It only takes one 'Yes.'"Got me thinking that a major factor in Job Search is MOTIVATION. Click the article below for some great mantras about the subject. I particularly gravitate to:1) "You didn't come this far to only come this far."2) "You can find and excuse or you can find a way."3) "Don't wish for it, work for it."4) "Things don't happen TO me, they happen FOR me."5) "Tough times don't last; tough people do."6) "You can have anything you want if you give up the belief you can't have it."Take a look at the article and my observations above and let me know what you think and what you might gravitate to (and why). Are there other job search phrases or mantras (perhaps ones you've even coined) that this LinkedIn audience should know?Happy weekend all!

Research is a must-have skill in today's job market. But is it just about doing research, or is it about drawing conclusions and actualizing the research? Regardless, research is just one part of the marketing equation. In my opinion, past experience, common sense, and creativity are equally as important! For those looking to brush up on their research skills, or as an excellent reminder, check out this blog from Udemy, a company I follow. Why is it so hard to accept that the workplace - and the world - has changed since Covid? The successful companies are the ones who've adopted a new normal. Emerging successful entities are the ones who are helping position society to match the new workplace. It's going to take out-of-the-box, once-thought-crazy, paradigm-shifting thought to prepare current and future workers for the current and future workplace.
