For many Americans, the quintessential 4th of July celebration always includes beef on the barbecue. But if you eat plant-based or are trying to include more plant-based foods on your plate, you may not be so keen on the typical hamburger and hotdog-based menu. Luckily, there are so many delicious vegan recipes you can make instead, while still enjoying your 4th of July tradition.

So today I’m sharing ten of my favorite plant-based 4th of July recipes with you. The best part is – since you’ll (hopefully) be having a socially-distanced celebration, you get to enjoy all the leftovers ;).

10 Plant-Based 4th of July Recipes

Easy Veggie Burgers

Would it really be a vegan 4th of July celebration without veggie burgers? With all of the plant-based burger options on the market, you may be wondering why you’d want to make your own.

Well, first of all, they’re much healthier than the ultra-processed vegan burgers (peep my post Is Plant-Based Meat Healthy?).Even when it comes to store-bought burgers with actual veggies, making your own usually wins. Second, they’re cheaper and customizable, so you can use up all of your veggies that are about to go bad. And third, you can make them in batches and store in the freezer for a quick weeknight dinner!

Vegan BBQ Jackfruit Sliders

I recently hopped on the jackfruit train, and let me tell you – I’m glad I did. These babies are juicy, barbecue-y, and so tasty. And because these sliders include lentils, they make a perfectly balanced, protein-rich main dish. Enjoy them with the vegan slaw and some pineapple on the side, and you won’t be disappointed.

Sweet Corn Pasta Salad

This pasta salad is not only easy to make, it’s also packed with nutrients. While I typically enjoy this summer salad as a side dish, it can easily be enjoyed as a main dish as well. It has everything you need – protein from the black beans, fiber-rich complex carbs from the whole-grain pasta, healthy fat from the avocado and olive oil, and vitamins and minerals from all of the veggies.

Vegan Potato Salad

This Vegan Potato Salad is the perfect side to go with your veggie burger or jackfruit sliders. Made with a protein-rich chickpea dressing, it’s creamy, filling, and super refreshing. The celery gives it a nice crunch, while the parsley and dill come together for a delicious flavor. Plus, the longer this sits, the better it gets. I suggest making it a day or two ahead of time and keeping it in the fridge. That way, it will be cold and ready when you are.

“Confetti” Carrot + Pea Salad

This colorful, crunchy, veggie-filled dish has an ideal mix of salty and sweet, thanks to a scrumptious dressing made with fresh-squeezed orange juice. Similar to the potato salad, this salad tastes even better on the second or third day, after the flavors have had a chance to soak in.

An easy, healthy summer side dish – this patriotic blueberry, strawberry, and coconut fruit salad is full of flavor without a ton of added sugar!

Watermelon Caprese Salad

Do you like a little sweet with your savory? Me too. This watermelon Caprese salad combines the sweetness of fruit with the saltiness of vegan cheese and is packed with refreshing flavor. It only requires four ingredients and is always a major crowd-pleaser at summer BBQs.

Vegan Apple Crisp

Last but not least, dessert. You didn’t think I’d forget about the best part of the meal, did you? This vegan apple crisp is the absolute best. It’s perfectly sweet and buttery, without an overload of sugar or fat. It’s crispy, crumbly, and melt-in-your-mouth luxurious. It uses coconut oil instead of butter and a moderate amount of brown sugar and maple syrup. Plus, it takes 10 minutes to prep!

These simple, delicious dessert bars are made with banana nice cream andhomemade granola. The perfect healthy treat for a hot 4th of July afternoon!

Dairy-Free Strawberries N’ Cream Popsicles

These creamy, dairy-free popsicles are refreshing, delicious, and perfect for an outdoor celebration. While they are Strawberries N’ Cream, I wouldn’t be opposed to adding in some blueberries to make them even more patriotic. Either way, I think you’ll love these popsicles as much as I do!
